Des Moines – The Iowa Democratic Party
held its District Conventions
today and Democrats elected 29 delegates and 5
alternates to represent Iowa at
the National Democratic Convention in
Denver. Iowa’s national delegation
will consist of 57 delegates and 8
alternates. The District Conventions
took place in Dubuque, Mount Vernon, West Des
Moines, Boone, and Council
Bluffs.
“Today
we saw great turnouts at our
grassroots political conventions,” Iowa
Democratic Party Chair, Scott Brennan,
said. “Thanks to party building
activities like our first-in-the-nation
Caucus and District Conventions, we now have
60,000 newly registered Democrats
in the state, an edge of 85,000 registered
voters over Republicans.”
“Democrats
will be working hard this
year to re-elect our great Senator Tom Harkin,
send Democrats to Congress from
all five congressional districts, strengthen
our majorities in the Iowa House
and Senate, and deliver Iowa for our
Democratic presidential nominee,” Brennan
added. “2008 is going to a great year
for Iowa Democrats.”
