STEVE KING PROMOTES HATEFUL COMMENTS ON HIS TAXPAYER-FUNDED WEBSITE

IDP Chair Calls on King to Take Down Comments

Des Moines – Steve King continues to do wrong by the people of Iowa by making outrageous and hateful statements and then promoting them on his taxpayer-funded website.

Congressman King recently made national headlines for controversial comments he directed toward Senator Barack Obama during an interview with the Spencer Daily Reporter.  King said in the interview that, "if (Obama) is elected president, the radical Islamists, the al-Qaida ... would be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on Sept. 11 because they would declare victory in this war on terror.”

He went on to say that Obama’s “middle name does matter…they’ll be dancing in the streets because of his middle name.  They’ll be dancing in the streets because of who his father was…”

Not only has King failed to apologize for his outlandish remarks, he is currently promoting them on his congressional website, which is funded by American taxpayers.

“Steve King is using his taxpayer-funded website to promote his hateful comments toward a Democratic Presidential candidate,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Scott Brennan.  “King needs to stop doing his politicking from his government office and get back to the work he was elected to do.  He very well may be in violation of House ethics rules by promoting politically charged comments on his congressional site.”

This kind of rhetoric is out of touch with the mainstream values of everyday Iowans,” Brennan added. “It is time for King to take these inappropriate remarks off of his congressional website.  Taxpaying Iowans deserve better.”
