Reynolds Endorses Government Shutdown Supporter Joni Ernst

Des Moines — Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds endorsed Tea Party Republican Joni Ernst for US Senate today, saying that Ernst represents “the best of the Republican Party.”

Unfortunately for Iowans, the “best” the Republican Party has to offer these days is a Tea Party-driven shutdown of the federal government – a shutdown that Joni Ernst has pledged to support, but Kim Reynolds has refused to take a position on.  While thousands of families are without the steady income they rely on, Ernst went so far to say today “I don’t know that it’s the wrong strategy,” in regards to the government shutdown.

“With 1,000 Iowa National Guard employees out of work, 2,500 furloughs at the Rock Island Arsenal, and thousands more Iowans wondering where their next paycheck will come from, the government shutdown is hurting Iowa families and the economic recovery,” said IDP Chairman Scott Brennan.  “But that hasn’t stopped Joni Ernst from supporting Ted Cruz’s efforts to shut the government down.  Iowans deserve more from their elected leaders than a Tea Party true believer willing to put Iowans out of work to make a political point.”

Ernst Signed Ted Cruz & Mike Lee’s Pledge to Defund Obamacare.  According to, Joni Ernst signed a pledge that read, “I, Joni Ernst, pledge to the taxpayers of the state of Iowa, and to the American people, that I will: ONE, support the full repeal of Obamacare (also known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act); and TWO, oppose any bill or budget resolution that provides funding to implement or enforce any part of it.” []
