Des Moines, IA – At the end of September, Governor Terry Branstad will travel to Washington, D.C. to raise money with the GOP’s most extreme and offensive right-wing leaders.  Governor Branstad – who has tried to cast himself as a moderate within an increasingly-extremist Republican Party – will join the Extremist All-Stars Senator Ted Cruz, Senator Rand Paul, Senator Marco Rubio and Governor Scott Walker – all champions who protect the rich, marginalize voters, threaten women’s health, and undermine equality.

“On the same day that we find out a top Iowa GOP official has left the party over its extremism, Governor Branstad announces that he is going to be cozying up with four people that embody the extremism of the Republican Party,” said IDP Executive Director Troy Price.  “At every turn, Republican leaders like Cruz, Paul, Rubio and Walker have passed legislation infringing on women’s rights to make her own healthcare choices, they’ve tried to make voting harder, have derided the contributions of Latinos, and opposed the rights of hardworking men and women across the country.  Terry Branstad is standing alongside four people that represent the heart and soul of the GOP, but couldn’t be farther from the views held by hard-working Iowans.  It is clear that Terry Branstad is more interested in filling his campaign coffers with his buddies on the far right than standing up for the values that Iowans hold dear.”
