DES MOINES, IA – According to Politico, Iowa State Senator Joni Ernst is preparing a possible campaign for US Senate by hiring a Texas-based Republican insider with ties to Mike Huckabee and Michelle Bachmann.

“Joni Ernst is going to have a hard time running as Governor Branstad’s Iowa problem solver if she builds a team of people who, like her, are Republican insiders with a partisan agenda,” said Iowa Democratic Party Executive Director Troy Price. “Just like she was handpicked to fill Lieutenant Governor Reynolds’ seat in the Iowa Senate, party insiders have recruited her for the U.S. Senate because they know she will place their agenda over what’s really Iowans’ best interest.”

According to Politico, “Texas-based GOP strategist David Polyansky is advising Ernst as she decides on a run, according to multiple Republicans familiar with her preparations.” Polyansky previously advised Mike Huckabee’s 2008 campaign and Michele Bachmann’s 2012 presidential bid.

Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds previously confirmed she had urged Ernst to run and Governor Branstad has frequently promoted her candidacy in media appearances.
