Iowa Democratic Party to Attend Several Upcoming Community Events
IDP Field Director Kevin Geiken Brings Democratic Message of Diversity & Inclusion to Weekend Events
As a kid, I used to love June because it marked the end of the school year. June meant I could sleep in and spend my days playing or relaxing and enjoying another Iowa summer. Now that I’m politically active, I look forward to June because it reminds me of what the Democratic Party is all about – inclusiveness and equality for all people – and in the coming weeks, the Iowa Democratic Party will be busy celebrating diversity and coming together around the important issues of equality and justice for all people.
We’ll be attending a number of events, and we’d love to see you all get involved with us this weekend, so we invite you to check out the details below!
Pride Fest – Iowa Democrats will be present at all major Pride Festivals in Iowa this year. Attending Pride Fest events allows us to stand in support of our LGBTQ community and demonstrate our commitment to equality for all people.
Saturday, June 15th
12pm @ the Ped Mall
Immigration Reform Rally –With Immigration Reform being debated in Congress, Iowa communities are joining together to make their voices heard on this important issue, and the Iowa Democratic Party is proud to stand with them. This Saturday, we will be joining a coalition of organizations at the Walk for Immigration Reform Now event to show support for comprehensive immigration reform and take action on this issue.
Saturday, June 15th, 1pm
1500 E Grand Ave
Juneteenth – Iowa Democrats will also be participating in Juneteenth celebrations this Saturday as well at the Iowa Juneteenth Celebration in Des Moines. We will be registering voters, signing up volunteers, and learning how Iowa Democrats can continue to be leaders in our African-American communities.
Saturday, June 15th, 12pm-7pm
Evelyn Davis Park, Des Moines
We always hear that Democrats are the “party of the people.” It’s sometimes easy for me to forget what that actually means because we work every day on behalf of all Iowans.
But every June when we get the opportunity to celebrate the cultures that make up our party, I am reminded of exactly who we are; we are Iowans who cherish our differences and work together to create a stronger and more equal future for all people. I hope you’ll join us at one of these great events this month!
Can’t make it out to one of these events and still want to learn how you can help the Iowa Democratic Party? E-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org to find out how you can get involved!
