As King Weighs Senate Bid, IDP Launches WhyKingWontRun.com
DES MOINES – The Iowa Democratic Party has launched WhyKingWontRun.com to highlight Congressman Steve King’s history of outrageous statements that will likely prevent him from attempting a bid for U.S. Senate in 2014.
“While Congressman King is enjoying his time in the spotlight by pretending he may run for U.S. Senate, we already know what his answer is,” said Iowa Democratic Party Executive Director Troy Price. “Congressman King’s outrageous statements over the years have earned him plenty of attention, but he knows that these statements will be impossible to defend in a statewide race.”
The new website, WhyKingWontRun.com, gives Iowans a glimpse into the rhetoric that Congressman King has become known for during his decade in office and makes it clear that he is out-of-touch with the vast majority of Iowans. Since taking office, King has become a poster child for Tea Party extremism and his outrageous statements continue to grab national headlines.
Prominent Republicans have also criticized King’s inability to win in a statewide race. In November Governor Branstad told the National Journal, “I think Steve King, I just don’t think he can do it in Eastern Iowa” and Karl Rove launched an effort against King and told Sean Hannity, “I personally do think [King’s] got some problems.”
