Even Republicans Can’t Support Reckless Steve King Budget

DES MOINES – In a rare show of bi-partisanship, the US House of Representatives this afternoon voted down Rep. Steve King’s budget that was proposed by his Republican Study Committee.  Only 104 Representatives voted yes, including King, while 132 Representatives voted no, including Rep. Tom Latham and 117 other Republicans.

King’s budget proposal uses the same false assumptions and funny math as the Paul Ryan budget such as eliminating Obamacare. The RSC tried to balance the budget on the backs of seniors – it raises the Social Security retirement age to 70 and begins the privatization of Medicare five years earlier than the Ryan budget.

“While Rep. King’s budget may be dead he showed Iowans his true colors in this budget proposal,” said Rep. Tyler Olson, Iowa Democratic Party Chair.  “King clearly favors his conservative friends in Washington over Iowa seniors.  Make no mistake, Iowans still need to beware of Steve King and his reckless plans to balance the Federal budget on the backs of Iowa seniors.”
