Des Moines — Iowa Democratic Party Chair Sue Dvorsky released the following statement on Google’s announcement that it will invest $75 million in a central Iowa wind farm that produces enough electricity to power 15,000 homes:
“Support for the wind energy industry is a non-partisan issue in Iowa. Today, we join others as we express our sincere gratitude to Google and the other investors who continue to recognize the many benefits of advancing this industry in Iowa and around the country.
“The wind-power industry is helping Iowa build our manufacturing base, create jobs, lower energy costs and strengthen Iowa’s energy security, all core priorities of Iowans, and a privilege we take very seriously. As one of America’s biggest sources of new electricity and fastest growing manufacturing sectors, wind power should have the full support of everyone in Congress.
“The Iowa Democratic Party encourages Iowa’s congressional delegation, particularly those on the Republican side of the aisle, to do everything in their power to encourage their colleagues in Washington DC. to support the extension of the wind production tax credit.”
This is the California tech company’s first investment in an Iowa wind generation project.
Google is investing in RPM Access’s Rippey wind farm that became operational this fall near Perry. According to reports, the farm has 20 wind turbines generating 50 megawatts of electricity.
