DES MOINES – Iowa Democratic Party Executive Director Norm Sterzenbach released the following statement this afternoon following the activity of protestors at the IDP headquarters:
“This afternoon we gave these individuals an opportunity to express their opinion and we listened to their concerns. We remain committed to a dialogue with all Iowans concerned about the important issues facing us.
“However, as we have told this group previously, an occupation of our office is an unacceptable course of action. Not only does it interfere with the important work that our volunteers and staff do to engage Iowans in the political process, but physically blocking our staff from entering or exiting the building sets a very dangerous precedent.
“It’s unfortunate that some members chose to face arrest after we took time to listen to their concerns. These individuals were given multiple opportunities and warnings before any action was taken. We cannot thank the Des Moines Police Department enough for their professionalism in resolving this matter.”
