Governor Branstad has made his priorities clear: Ensuring bonuses for his staff, instead of investing in economic growth through the Earned Income Tax Credit and Workforce Development Offices.
Yesterday, Branstad vetoed a provision that would prohibit bonuses from being awarded to Governor’s Office staff, while also using his power to strike down the Earned Income Tax Credit, which would have saved Iowa families $28.5 million over the next two years, as well as funding for 37 Workforce Development offices, which help unemployed Iowans find work and receive benefits.
Those aren’t the priorities we expect out of state government.
