Iowa’s Republican congressional delegation supports the Ryan plan
DES MOINES – Senator Chuck Grassley yesterday joined Senate Republicans in voting for House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) plan to end Medicare as we know it.
The Ryan plan jeopardizes benefits for over half a million Iowans by gutting the very benefits that Seniors have paid into their whole working lives. The Ryan budget would immediately increase prescription drug costs for Iowa seniors, and double out-of-pocket health care costs in the future.
“Senator Grassley’s vote for ending Medicare as we know it abandons the commitment we have made to Iowa seniors,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chairwoman Sue Dvorsky. “Along with Steve King and Tom Latham, Grassley has backed an extreme agenda that guts Medicare benefits, increases health care costs, and leaves seniors without the coverage they deserve.”
On Tuesday voters in New York’s 26th Congressional District sent a clear message that ending Medicare is not an option, where a well-known Republican candidate in a historic Republican district was defeated by Democrat Kathy Hochul after backing the Ryan plan.
