Gov.-Elect’s Pick for IDED Distances Administration from 200,000 Job Pledge

DES MOINES – Governor-elect Terry Branstad’s pick to lead the Iowa Department of Economic Development, Debi Durham, has begun to distance the administration from one of their most prominent campaign promises. When asked about the ability of the administration to create 200,000 new jobs, Durham said this morning, “it is a stretch goal.”

“Iowans deserve an administration that will take job creation seriously instead of abandoning the promises they made on the campaign trail,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Sue Dvorsky. “Unfortunately, less than a month after being elected, the Branstad/Reynolds administration has abandoned one of its key promises to Iowans.”

Branstad, along with Durham, failed to disclose additional details of how the Department of Economic Development will change after they take office.

“Given Governor-elect Branstad’s history of broken campaign promises we’re not surprised, but we’re disappointed by his lack of commitment to job growth,” added Dvorsky.
