Top 5 Republican Moments of 2010

With the election around the corner, that’s Tuesday November 2nd for those of you living under a rock, we decided to take a moment to look back and reminisce over the some of our favorite memories that the Republican slate brought us.

  1. Terry Branstad wants to cut preschool for Iowa’s children.

Terry Branstad has promised to reduce the cost and size of government by at least 15 percent. Sort of. He said so in his campaign kickoff speech at the State Historical Society (how appropriate!) but has wavered in recent weeks as he’s been pressed to give some specifics on where he’ll cut. The only specific given is eliminating the voluntary 4 year old preschool program for Iowa’s children.

Governor Culver expanded this program from 5% of school districts to 95% of school district in four years and want to expand it to 100% in his second term.

  2. Chuck Grassley’s Debt and Deficit Dragon

Chuck Grassley compared the rising cost of health care to a fire-breathing dragon…no, really.

  3. Chuck Grassley repeatedly didn’t show up  to debate his challenger Roxanne Conlin.

Roxanne Conlin repeatedly attempted to debate Chuck Grassley but he was too busy cutting TV ads about his twitter account and not having a public event for 2 months. So Roxanne took the advice of Senator Grassley’s wife Barbara,

“You know, if he doesn’t up to a certain time, do the ‘empty chair’ routine,”

She did just that. Finally, after repeated pressure and anger from the electorate, Grassley agreed to a radio debate. You can listen to that debate here.

  4. Chuck Grassley suggested AIG execs commit suicide.

Maybe they can stand in front of one of those non-existant death panels he’s always talking about…

  5. Terry Branstad gets Sarah Palin’s endorsement…on Facebook…

    Not everyone is pleased…

  6. BONUS:  Terry Branstad’s mustache was nominated for the 2010 “Robert Goulet Memorial Mustached American of the Year.”
I think I’d go with “Spider” Glenn Compton.
