IDP Chair Calls on Sen. Grassley to Support Unemployment Extension

DES MOINES, IA – Iowa Democratic Party Chair Sue Dvorsky today called on Senator Chuck Grassley to put politics aside and support an extension of emergency unemployment insurance benefits:

“Senator Grassley has stood with his fellow Republicans and blocked an extension of emergency unemployment insurance benefits no less than three times in the past few weeks. Meanwhile families across Iowa and the nation are counting on their legislators to do the right thing and extend these vital benefits. It is shameful that Senator Grassley has chosen to put partisan politics ahead of Iowa’s future.

“With another vote in the Senate scheduled this week, I hope Senator Grassley can put working families first and support this legislation. Especially during tough economic times it is up to us to offer assistance to hard working Iowans who are seeking a job and make sure they are able to pay the bills and put food on the table. While we are fortunate enough to live in a state with a growing and strong economy, Senator Grassley cannot deny that people are relying on these vital benefits.”
