DES MOINES, IA – After his attempt to justify another party-line vote, Senator Grassley is debunked again by PolitiFact.com.
Grassley released a statement today to justify for his vote for a filibuster, in which he claims that “the federal government will be there to bail you out” if this bill passes.1 The St. Petersburg Times’ Pulitzer Prize winning site PolitiFact.com debunks that claim as simply “false.”2
“Senator Grassley needs to stop reading off the Republican Party’s script, especially when it’s just flat wrong, “ said Iowa Democratic Party Chairman Michael Kiernan.
Last week, Senator Charles Grassley voted with the Democrats on financial reform, but yesterday, he voted with the Republican caucus to filibuster the bill. By voting for the filibuster, Grassley refused to allow amendments or debate of the bill.
PolitiFact.com debunked Grassley’s infamous assertion that if health insurance reform passed the federal government would decide “when to pull the plug on Grandma”,3 which PolitiFact.com later called the “Lie of the Year.”4
“Before we can move forward, we must examine in an honest manner what caused this economic crisis to begin with and how to prevent it. To me, that’s common sense. Why is Senator Grassley is even trying to justify his vote to stand up for Wall Street when Iowa’s hard-working families are hurting?” asked Kiernan.
The Senate will vote again on financial regulatory reform tonight.5
