Culver unveils budget plan

Governor Chet Culver has unveiled a plan for state spending for the budgeting year that begins July 1st and includes over $341 million in savings the governor says can be achieved through streamlining and other changes.

Braley outlines Populist Caucus “Blueprint for Recovery”

Representative Bruce Braley advocated a four-point “Blueprint for Recovery” in Politico yesterday. The House Populist Caucus, which Braley formed last year, has endorsed these proposals to “require Wall Street to pay for economic development on Main Street and to pay down our nation’s deficit.” Read full article…

Iowa gets $6.6 million to expand broadband

Sen. Tom Harkin says about $6.6 million in federal funding is headed for Iowa to establish broadband internet access to businesses and residents in rural communities.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is distributing the money at the behest of Harkin, who is a senior member of the Appropriations Committee. Read full article…
