CBPP Report: Obama not to blame for record deficit

A report from the non-partisan Center on Budget and Policy Priorities ends the ridiculous meme that President Obama is to blame for the budget deficit.

Democrats at all levels of government warned the country for years that the Bush tax cuts for the rich, coupled with two wars financed on the country’s credit card was a terrible idea that would lead to huge problems. Combine that with the economic downturn do to lax regulation and shady business on Wall St. and we find ourselves in the mess we’re in today.

In fact, the tax cuts enacted under President George W. Bush, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the economic downturn together explain virtually the entire deficit over the next ten years.

The report goes on to say that the President’s budget proposals, which include ending the Bush tax cuts and closing tax loopholes among others, would, “reduce deficits by approximately $175 billion over the next ten years.”

So the next time you hear someone arguing that the President is ruining the country single handed, you should show them this article.
